Mobile command centers are an absolute must in coordinating emergency response situations. Command cabinets are designed to be the central location where all and final commands are decided. When it comes to designing a custom command cabinet there are a few things to keep in mind:
Command board– this is where the intelligence is communicated to the personnel on the scene from the commanding officer. There are a few different styles to choose from. Probably the most common style of command board is the lift up. If you like the command board to pop up out of the drawer and sit vertically, then this is the style for you. Many cabinet companies offer different ways of lifting up the command board. For example, there is the piston lift system which only allows the command board to sit in one position. The ratchet system allows the command board lock into about 7 different positions, ranging anywhere from flat to almost 90 degrees. Then there is the standard command board which just lays flat when you pull out the drawer. If you go with the standard plexi glass, the glass will lift up so you can insert your own incident map underneath.
Radio Face Plate– A radio face plate is a very convenient way to mount your radios, electrical outlets and charging stations. There is room behind the face plate where you can wire all these items to the power source. Face plates come in a few different widths: full width, half width and single width. The width you will get should depend on the amount of items you have to mount and that need power.
The rest of a command cabinet is storage space to be designed to fit your organizational preferences. Some options are file drawers, storage drawers, pull out trays, open compartments and compartments with a door.
